How did the name "Hindu" came into existance?

Based on what I read in many sources I came to know this:

Sanatana Dharma is the original name of Hinduism. Persians are the one who coined the word "Hindu" when they invaded India during 6th century B.C.

In Persian language the letter H and S seems to be pronounced almost the same way. Because the Sanskrit sound of “S” converts to “H” in the Parsee language. So the Persians mistook the word Sindhu to Hindu.
